Free Entry"Music is the space between the notes" - Claude Debussy
Piano Works Debussy is a duet between the dancer Lisbeth Gruwez and the pianist Claire Chevallier. Together they are searching for the space between the notes in the compositions of Claude Debussy, who struggled with the hegemony of rules. Their movements are more hints than expressions, in the spirit of Debussy's search for "la musique immatérielle". Gruwez and Chevalier do not conjure up an immutable reality, but install an imagination behind the cloak of the material. For the first time in her career, Gruwez is dealing with classical music. After training in classical ballet, she found her freedom in contemporary dance and gradually developed a movement language that has since become referential. In this respect, Piano Works Debussy is a unique dialogue between a classical and a contemporary framework that somehow reveals her choreographic path. Lisbeth Gruwez: "Piano Works Debussy is a watercolour. Think of the lightness of colours that flow into each other, dry for a while and then get moistened again to make new connections. Debussy's music waters the dance and shakes up the material again and again."
