Merging of dance styles within dance mediation using the example of Afro Urban & contemporary dance

In order to create interest-specific opportunities for participants/dancers, it is important to know how and with which dance arts/styles they have already come into contact. How can fusions of dance styles be used with relish in dance mediation? The Tanzplattform Rhein-Main invites the dance mediator, dancer and choreographer Jennifer Owusu (Jniifa) to share insights into her first encounters, experiences with urban/Afro dance and dance mediating practice with young people. As an open offer, the "Dance Education Forum" enables an intensive exchange on questions of mediation, concepts and ideas and thus complements the project-related activities of the Tanzplattform Rhein-Main in this area. The format is aimed at educators, artists, teachers, mediators and other interested parties. Questions relating to mediation and cultural education are discussed and tested in dialogue with various regional and international actors. Jniifa - Jennifer Owusu is a choreographer, dancer, and Dun Dun drummer. From an early age she had a deep desire to learn more about her Ghanaian roots and the different African cultures. Through regular cultural trips to West Africa and from artistic mentors from West Africa, she learned traditional and modern dances. She made her entry into the urban dance scene with Locking, she took part in dance competitions throughout Germany. In 2020 she was the co-choreographer of the Africanspirit performance on the RTL TV show Let's Dance. She is the founder of the Afro dance group Afrotudedancers and board member of the cultural association Kaloyelen e. V.. In her dance courses, pieces and projects, she focuses on empowerment and self-expression through dance.
